Every count, clean. Every stage, ready.

Technique-first coaching for Middle Tennessee's most driven dancers, wherever they train. Robin sees the details others miss and fixes them at the root. Brittany creates the piece and cuts the music. Your dancer walks onstage ready.

A legacy, continued.

The Hargest Academy was built on one mission: develop well-rounded performers through quality training, professionalism, discipline, hard work and perseverance. That mission carries on. From a studio minutes from downtown Franklin, Robin Hargest and Brittany Hargest Prins work one-on-one with dancers from studios across Middle Tennessee, bringing the same standard to every private, every cleaning session and every piece.

What we do

Three crafts.
One standard.

Book one, or put them together. A Brittany piece, cut to her edit, cleaned by Robin, is the full Hargest treatment.

Cleaning& technique privates

Robin is known for her eye. She catches the head that turns half a count late, the foot that isn't finished, the arm a beat behind the line. Then she fixes the technique underneath it, so the fix holds onstage.

Cleaning is the detail work that separates a good routine from a great one: every count matched, every line finished, every transition intentional. Robin brings more than 35 years of ballet and jazz teaching to your choreography, whoever set it.

Choreographymulti award-winning

Original, award-winning choreography built around the dancer in front of her: their strengths, their story, their stage. Brittany has choreographed for recording artists and has won national titles and choreography awards as a teacher.

Every piece is also a lesson. Brittany writes to where a dancer is now and to where they can be by the end of the season, then pushes them to get there.

What we believe

The Hargest
standard.

These are the principles the Academy was built on, and they guide everything we teach.

01

Technique protects the dancer.

Using the body correctly and effectively is how dancers last. Clean technique means fewer injuries and fewer bad habits to unlearn later.

02

Every dancer is an individual.

No two dancers work at the same pace. We meet each one where they are and move them forward as fast as they can take it in and apply it.

03

The art before the trophy.

Competition is a stage, not the goal. Trophies are nice, but teaching the art of dance always comes first.

04

Earned, never given.

Progress belongs to the dancer. They feel the joy of reaching a goal because they pushed for it, not because it was handed to them.

05

Learn from the note.

Our critiques are direct, because that's how dancers grow. Learning from a note instead of shrinking from it builds character for life.

06

Discipline that lasts.

Professionalism, respect and work ethic matter whether a dancer goes pro or dances for the love of it. We welcome both.

Your studio. Your choreographer.
Our eye.

Helping dancers from other studios' competition teams reach their goals was always part of the Academy. Now it's the heart of what we do. We work alongside your teachers and choreographers, never against them, so your dancer goes back to their team sharper and more confident.

Who you'll work with

Mother & daughter.
Two careers onstage.

The eye for detail

Robin Hargest

Technique first. Detail always.

Robin is known for her attention to detail and her insistence on clean, correct technique. Her goal has always been the same: develop each dancer's technique and performance, push them beyond what is easy, and ask them to strive for perfection, even when it seems impossible.

Raised in Dallas, Robin began training at 11 and found her home in classical ballet, studying with Arthur Mitchell, Myrtha Rosello, Randelyn Kaye and Paula Moreland, with a scholarship to the Dance Theatre of Harlem summer intensive. She performed with Texas Civic Ballet and Dance Repertory Theater, then lived out a personal dream as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

She began teaching professionally at 18. In Nashville she founded the Nashville Dance Ensemble in 2000, working with pop groups including Jump5 and pureNRG. Her private students have gone on to tour with established artists, appear on So You Think You Can Dance, and become teachers and choreographers themselves.

The choreographer

Brittany Hargest Prins

Fifteen years a recording artist. Now an award-winning choreographer.

Trained in ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and gymnastics from age 3, Brittany was accepted to the Kirov Academy of Ballet at 9 and was performing at Opryland USA within a year of starting voice. She won national dance and vocal titles, then built a 15-year career as a recording artist. That included eight years with the pop group Jump5 (12 albums, tours around the world, and a performance for the President of the United States) before she went on as a solo artist.

She has shared the stage with the Jonas Brothers, Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson and Jesse McCartney, and has choreographed for and coached recording artists. As a teacher, her work has won national titles and choreography awards. That same ear for a record shapes every music cut she makes.

What drives her now is creating and educating: pushing dancers to reach their full potential, and growing right alongside them.
